DAVID H. PIHL, Q.C.*, B. COMM., LL.B.
David was born, raised and educated in Vancouver, British Columbia, before relocating to the Okanagan Valley.
David has performed as Trial Counsel for most of his legal career and is recognized for his involvement in complex personal injury claims, both as plaintiff’s counsel and defence counsel, and large commercial disputes. The majority of his practice has focused on civil litigation, including general commercial litigation, personal injury, and insurance litigation. David has appeared in all levels of Courts in the Province.
Over the years David has actively participated in Local, Provincial and National Boards, as well as both Legal and Non-Legal Associations, including volunteer representation on the Kelowna General Hospital Board, Rotary International, and the Kelowna Bar Association. In 1994, on invitation, David appeared before the Mongolian Parliamentary Laws Committee to give assistance in the drafting of their Civil Code.
David regularly attends Legal Education Seminars both as a participant and lecturer. He has been a guest lecturer for the Central Okanagan Brain Injury Society, Okanagan University College, Trial Lawyers Association of B.C. and Continuing Legal Education for B.C. David presently sits as a board member of the British Columbia Law Institute, whose mandate is to promote the clarification and simplification of the law, to improve the administration of justice and respect for the law and to carry out scholarly research.
David is also involved in promoting a legal presence at UBCO, the establishment of a student scholarship fund for students from UBCO who are planning to attend UBC Law School and to assist with implementing curriculum lectures at UBCO on relevant legal topics. More recently, David is an active participant in this project as a fund raiser and participant to the lecture series slated to begin in the spring of 2009.
