Other ProcessesTribunals are a different type of decision-making body. They are created by law and are composed of individual or group decision-makers usually who have expertise in a specific area. For example, some types of tribunals deal with immigration or human rights or even problems between landlords and tenants. The decisions of tribunals are binding but can be appealed. Tribunals are designed to provide faster decision-making and be less costly than Court. Fast Track Litigation can provide a speedier and less expensive decision than a regular Court trial. It is not available in all circumstances - only for actions which can be completed within 2 days, do not need a jury, can be prepared for within 8 months, do not require long discoveries and where costs are not a significant issue. Rule 66 of the Rules of Court governs this process. |
